About John Nolley II
What to say? A tough choice, to be sure, figuring out how to condense one's entire person into a few short sentences.
My name you know by now (or at least I hope). I'm single (in the matramonial sense--otherwise spoken for) and still fairly young; I've got at least eleven more years of my 20's ahead of me (yes, I said eleven) even if I was born in time to watch and remember all three Star Wars movies on the big screen (so maybe I lie about my age--it's only a cosmetic fib). Apparently I really enjoy parenthetical references.
I've lived in only two places most of my life: Mullens, WV, where I was born and grew up, and Blacksburg, VA, where I went to school and worked for over a decade. Now I've moved to Arlington, VA for a nice pay raise, an interesting new job, and the perks and trials of city living. I grew up in the country and enjoy being somewhere that I can still hike and enjoy the outdoors--the Blue Ridge Mountains are an hour away--and believe it or not, the hassles of traffic have been less a problem than the student drivers and their clueless parents in Blacksburg. Foreign travel is my favorite although I still enjoy exploring the U.S. of A. I speak a little French and Japanese but haven't ever had to.
I am lucky to have a very sweet and beautiful fiancee in Beth. I live with four cockatiels--Rydia, Locke, Kain, and Freya--in an apartment while I search for a new townhouse. Two kittens, plus now Beth's three dogs, bird, and cat have recently joined the family as well!
My interests are more varied than most; if I had my way, I'd live my life writing and in school where I could learn more about everything I like. I already have degrees in English and Computer Science and most of one in Math and a bunch of Biology, too, and would love to learn about Statistics and Psychology and all sorts of other fields, too. I want to speak three or more languages well. I like to cook and try new foods. I enjoy history if not in the classroom then from books.
I do all sorts of things to keep an idle mind at bay. Indoors, I write, read (particularly sci-fi/fantasy, history, and science nonfiction), play video games, watch tv or movies (anime being a favorite), cook, build things from costumes to bookshelves, and so forth. I work out at the gym and like swimming, mountain biking, basketball, baseball, tennis, racquetball, and football. Growing up gave me a love for the outdoors from hiking and camping to SCUBA diving. I love to draw maps of my hikes and travels, too.
