Alucard's Plain Grey Pants
There's not much remarkable about the pants Alucard wears in the anime and manga; they are simply a plain pair of pants cut from the same fabric as the vest (the two often seem to blend together) and tucked into his boots.
I chose a fairly simple-looking men's pants pattern from Simplicity... in retrospect, I think I would choose a different pattern as some of the directions for the one I chose were difficult to understand.

My Alucard's Pants
To achieve a proper match between the vest and pants, I had to make Alucard's pants from scratch. Always a fan of Simplicity's patterns, I selected a fairly plain looking men's pants pattern (which also included a shirt and tie) and went to work.
The pants took me somewhere over a couple of days to complete--mainly due to confusing instructions supplied with the pattern. Mistakes cost me much of that time and a dull seam ripper as I had to undo many, many seams during construction. Completed, the pants do look nice if not quite of the same caliber as the vest in terms of quality.
Materials List
- Simplicity Pants Pattern
- 2 yards dark grey fabric, preferably cotton
- Large black button (1" or so)
- 7" pants zipper to match fabric
- Fusible interfacing, about 1/4 yards of 15"
Fabric Selection
Like his vest, Alucard's pants are drawn dark grey in the anime, and although this may be simply an artistic consideration as black wouldn't allow for good contrast and visible details, I chose to stick to grey. Make sure you buy enough for both the vest and pants, as they are the exact same color and should blend together well visually.
At $1 a yard, the fabric I used was a real steal and a cosplayer's dream bargain. I'd spent a long time searching for the perfect fabric; the local fabric stores didn't carry much in dark grey except too-thick, too-hot, 100% polyester suiting--and I hate synthetics; see Costumer's Rule #1 above. Fortunately, I came across a bolt marked "unknown content / origin" on the Wal-Mart bargain table and bought up all 14 3/8 yards. The feel suggested a cotton / poly blend--acceptable as opposed to 100% polyester--which I later confirmed by burning a small scrap (the cotton fibers char and the poly ones melt and then burn)
