John's Writing

Years and years ago at age 11 and in fifth grade, I created a space ship that I named the Exerda to compete with one of my best friends of the time, drawing pictures and writing out specs to see whose spaceship would win in a fight. Over the next few years, I first drew a couple of comic books (unfortunately, since lost) and began writing stories to describe the adventures of the crew of said starship.

As a youngster, I had plenty of interest in books, reading hundreds before I finished grade school and forming a voracious appetite for the printed word that helped drive me beyond the education I could get from school. Such bibliophilia naturally could lead only to the nagging illness that is writing.

My earliest attempts at writing were largely influenced by my favorite books and television at the time: Tom Swift, Star Trek, and V: The Series. Needless to say, the quality was fairly poor--with lots of interjections of BOOM and ZAP like some kind of Batman cartoon and unrealistic characters and plots, but it was still a start down a long but enjoyable road as a writer.

John Writing at the Beach

I look forward to my yearly vacations at the beach due to the amount of writing I'm able to accomplish--often while sitting on the sea wall in the evenings. Free of the distractions of home and work, I often solve plot problems that had been nagging me for weeks on end to the point of writer's block.
